In order to make GST Scrutiny 2023 more systematic, on Saturday, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman instructed the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) to introduce an automated system for scrutinizing goods and services tax (GST) returns by the following week. she also directed them to develop a plan that utilizes technology to expand the taxpayer base, according to an official statement.
The Finance Minister conducted a review of the tax regime with senior officials from CBIC and Revenue Secretary Sanjay Malhotra. To strengthen the fight against fraudulent invoicing and spurious tax credit claims, the Minister suggested that the CBIC carry out a comprehensive analysis by examining the cases that have already been registered and recommending technology-based solutions, according to the statement
The Minister also suggested that the CBIC take steps to improve employee welfare. The meeting discussed issues such as cadre restructuring, capacity building, and training, as well as ensuring timely promotions and prompt and effective action in disciplinary cases, according to the statement.
The comprehensive review encompassed a range of work areas, such as trade facilitation, taxpayer services, addressing trade grievances, resolving disciplinary cases, and infrastructure projects.
The Finance Minister highlighted the importance of constantly improving taxpayer services. Regarding grievance redressal, Sitharaman proposed that in each zone, there should be interactions with members of the trade and industry who are part of the GST ecosystem to learn about their issues and suggestions. She also instructed the implementation of a system to obtain feedback on resolved grievances in order to enhance the quality of redressal.
