7 lakh gst paediatric cancer exemptions received by a small girl from India’s indirect taxes body. The exemption was granted after Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman intervened.
Following an appeal by the girl’s family, senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor contacted Sitharaman to request a GST exemption for the medication. Tharoor praised Sitharaman and the chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), Vivek Johri, in a tweet.
“The family will receive their injection, the baby will survive, and our exchequer will forego (Rs) 7 lakhs in GST revenue to bring life and joy to a small child,” Tharoor tweeted.
“Whenever I have doubts about spending so much of my life in politics,” he wrote, “something like this happens and makes it all worthwhile.”
